With the new year, we return to our multi-part series from the book of Revelation, called “The Seven Churches.”

Thyatira and the “line of tolerance”

We each have in our lives a “line of tolerance”. On one side of that line is the absolute, perfect will of God in Christ. It’s the side of righteous thoughts and deeds, of holiness in mind and body and spirit. It’s the side most pleasing to our Father.

On the other side of the line is our sinful inclinations. It’s the place where we are tempted to sin by “the world, the flesh, and the devil.” That line of tolerance will move in our lives according to our heart-movement towards or away from God.

The church of Thyatira had many good things going for it, but they had allowed their “line of tolerance” to move farther and farther away from God’s standard.

All is not lost, though. We can choose to repent and return to the Lord. That was His call to the church at Thyatira (Rev. 2:21-23). That is His call to us.
