Your Elders have embarked upon updating and changing certain portions of our By-Laws including wording on one specific point in our Doctrinal Statement that has been a source of confusion and contention for many years. There are 2 other significant changes they believe warrant our attention as well, and many other simple grammar and pronoun changes to assist in clarity of interpretation. Throughout this process your Elders’ goal is open and honest transparency. If at any time you don’t feel this is occurring please contact your Elders.
The Review of the By-Laws will be similar to what we did in 2018-2019. This process includes:
- Board of Elders review By-Laws and unanimously identify proposed changes.
- A copy of this draft is available below and in the church office.
- Conduct Q&A congregational meetings at which proposed changes and Elder rationale is discussed. During these meetings the Elders will also elicit feedback for any additional suggestions.
- An updated copy of the draft will be provided on this page and in the church office when it becomes available.
- At any time any church attendee who has any questions or concerns can schedule to meet in person with one or more Elders. Please call the church office to arrange.
- The Elders then make final proposed By-Law changes.
- An updated copy of the final draft will be provided on this page and in the church office when it becomes available.
- Hold a formal SHBC Congregational meeting and have SHBC members vote on the proposed changes.
- Any approved changes become effective at the conclusion to that Congregational Meeting
