As we come to verse 11 of Matthew 6, “give us this day our daily bread”, we come to a shift in the focus of our prayer. We are instructed by Jesus to direct our first thoughts in prayer to God, and so we see “hallowed be Your name”, “Your kingdom come”, “Your will be done”. These expressions address our God and Father with reverence and submission, which is right and good and pleasing in His sight.

But God cares for us and our needs, too. So we are taught not just how to pray, but what to pray for. This is where we are in verse 11.
